Monthly Meeting: Protest Poetry, with Bart White

  • St John Fisher College 3690 East Avenue Rochester, NY, 14618 United States (map)

Just Poet Bart White leads a session on protest poetry. Bart says: In the age of the Tweet, what role does writing and reading poems have? Can a poet’s voice be heard in the deluge of modern media? We will look at the role of poets in oppressive societies and whether poetry can incite change. Participants will read poems of resistance and discuss. We’ll read and discuss works by Wheatley, Brooks, Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti, Rich and by members of our own Just Poets.

After the main program we’ll have our usual workshop: 3:00 to 4:00 Bring 8 copies of a poem you are working on for our group workshops that run after the program (from 3:00 to 4:00 pm).

We'll meet in the COP Conference Room, on the second floor of the Campus Center.
