JP Open Mic

  • Before Your Quiet Eyes 439 Monroe Avenue Rochester, NY (map)

Come for another evening of poetry at the Before Your Quiet Eyes bookstore.

This month’s featured reader is Just Poet David Michael Nixon. A long term Just Poet, he was made a Life Member of Just Poets in gratitude for his many services to the organization including serving on the Board, as Just Poets President, and managing this Open Mic series for several years.

Born in Batavia, David grew up in Lockport, and now lives in Rochester, NY.  His poems have appeared in many periodicals and several anthologies.  His latest poetry book is Stephen Forgives the Stones: New and Selected Poems (FootHills Publishing, 2018).  He is a member of the Imperfect Poets Club, Just Poets, The Golden Link Folk Singing Society, Writers & Books, Metro Justice, and the War Resisters League.  David is also an a cappella singer of folk and country songs, a housecleaner and yardworker, and an ancient basketball player.

Don't forget to bring some poems of your own to share during the open mic portion of the event. Usually readers are allowed 1-3 poems, for a total of three minutes.

The series is curated by Just Poet David Yockel.
