Genesee Reading Series at Writers & Books

GENESEE READING SERIES at Writers and Books

Tuesday, August 9, 2016

7:30 pm, $3 members; $6 public

Linda Allardt is a poet of the Finger Lakes and the Southern Tier, where she grew up. Her 6th book of poems, Under Construction (Foothills Publishing, 2016) is dedicated to Andrew Glaze, Poet Laureate of Alabania, and a life-long friend, she first met in 1948 at the Breadloaf Writers Conference. She worked at the University of Rochester for 20 years as one of the editors of an edition of Emerson's notebooks and journals, including The Poetry Notebooks of Ralph Waldo Emerson. She was also one of the editors of Judith Kitchen's State Street Press, along with Bruce Bennet and Stan Sanvel Rubin.  She taught Creative Writing/Poetry at the University  of  Rochester,  Eastman  School of Music,  St John Fisher College, and Writers and Books for many years, and still marvels at the poems of  her students who are still in touch.

Claudia M. Stanek's work has been turned into a libretto, has been part of an art exhibition, and has been translated into Polish after a writer's residency in Poland. Her chapbook, Language You Refuse to Learn was co-winner of Bright Hill Press's 2013 prize. Other poems have been published in print and online in Redactions:  Poetry and Poetics, Euphony, Fourth River, Ruminate, and Conte, among other. She lives in western NY with her rescued pets.
