Join Just Poets at Before Your Quiet Eyes Bookstore for our monthly open mic.
Where does love of poetry start? For this month’s featured reader, Kitty Jospé, it might manifest in language — but it’s just as evident when singing, playing piano, bicycling, hiking, Her words depend on the rhythms, vowel color, consonant texture to deliver messages you won’t forget in short pieces that vary from playful, to lyric, serious.
After retiring from teaching French, she completed her MFA in Poetry at Pacific University and in 2008, started her weekly sessions that read aloud and discuss good poems. She is active in many community connections and enjoys giving lectures on different aspects of poetry, including Ekphrasis, drawing on her 20+ years of experience as Docent at the Memorial Art Museum.
Her poetry appears in such places as Atlanta Review, Nimrod, Grassroots, Rundelania, special exhibits where her words support photographs, and her five books: Cadences (2009); Mosaicq (2012— semi-finalist, Finishing Line Press), Gathering Lines (2013); Golden Smoke (2015), Twilight Venus (2018).
Don't forget to bring some poems of your own to share during the open mic portion of the event. Usually readers are allowed 1-3 poems, for a total of three minutes.
The series is curated by Just Poet David Yockel.
