Celeste Schantz presents a workshop: “A Bag of Tricks!”
The workshop will consist of a dozen or so techniques to expand your writerly toolbox.
As poets, we all have rote ways we rely on in constructing our first drafts. Sometimes we run out of ideas, inspiration and fresh approaches.
These “bag of tricks” techniques are designed to help you approach your draft from a new angle, from a “side door” or to see your lines and images in a fresh, new way, to shake your lines, images and phrasing up a bit.
Participants will learn each technique, and have time, using a menu of prompts, to put several to work in a rough draft of a poem to share with others.
Handouts provided.
After the main program we’ll have our usual workshop: 3:00 to 4:00 Bring 8 copies of a poem you are working on for our group workshops that run after the program (from 3:00 to 4:00 pm).
We'll meet in the COP Conference Room, on the second floor of the Campus Center.
