This month our featured poet is Mina Hatami. As always, please bring a couple poems of your own to read during the open mic portion of the event!

Mina Hatami was born in Tehran, Iran, and as a teenager, beginning to understand the suffocation of Iran's political system, developed an appreciation for the underground Marxist groups and the intellectuals who indirectly supported them. She left Iran in 1980 for a summer vacation that has not ended yet. It brought her to the United States, where she has found a home.

Her education is in philosophy and Public Administration and she currently works for a NPO. Coming from a culture that is heavily religious and gender-biased, philosophy gives her the skills to question anything and everything, to choose what she likes, reject peer pressure, and social expectation. 

She loves to paint, spend time outdoors, and, of course, write.
